Horizon art

I have been learning about perspective in my art. I learn't to make things look bigger when they're close and things to look smaller when they're far away .I made the closest part of the river wide and the far end skinny. I learn't that the horizon line is the part of the river that meet's the mountains and I learn't to blend the colors together. Something that challenged me was using the big fat pastels when I was trying to do my the skinny end part of the river because I kept going over the line. 

Matariki

Tortara whanua has been learning about Matariki. Matariki is the time of year where you spend time with family and friends including Brothers, Sisters, Aunties, Uncles, Cousin, Nephews, Nieces even little babies even if they don't know what it is. Matariki is a time when you calabrate the Maori new year. People calabrate matariki by eating kai and spend time together.

In Totara we have been celebrating Matariki in lots of different ways. We wrote stories about Maori legends. My story is a retelling of Maui and The Fish.

I have been working on adding in detail to my story because detail keeps the reader hooked in. Something that I found challenging was getting the story written because I was away for a couple of days. I also find it tricky to get my sentences in order. I need to re read more of the stories I write to check the sentences I have written sound right and make sense.

     Maui and the fish

Maui’s four foster brothers were jealous of him because he had magical powers and he was better at doing everything. Maui’s four foster brothers planned to go fishing without him. Maui heard their plan so he snuck into the waka that they were going fishing on. When they got into the water Maui jumped out of his hiding place and his brothers were in shock. Maui said “ This is a terrible place to go fishing let’s go somewhere different”. Maui’s brothers were still shocked that he found out that they were going fishing without him. They paddled till dark. The brothers fall asleep but Maui was still paddling. Maui’s only light was marama the moon. Morning came Maui and his brothers were awake but found the place that was great to go fishing. His brothers still wanted revenge so they didn’t give him any bait so he sliced his nose a little bit and then wiped the blood on his jawbone hook. He span and span his hook around and around and into the ocean. He did not know that his hook was pulling up a whare and under that whare was a GIANT fish.He pulled and pulled and PULLED. Maui’s brother’s started to stab at the big fish because they were jealous and they wanted to eat the fish. Now the is dead and it the north Island and lot’s of mountain and valleys. That why the north Island is shaped like a sting Ray.

Writing

Have you ever had a book so great that you will never stop reading? You can read lots of books like chapter book, picture books, high school books, ( If you can read the words) middle school books, junior books, comic books, horror books and so much more. Those are some facts about what kind of books you can read.       

                       Equipment

• A book
• Have a quiet place to read your book
• Have something soft to sit on ( bean bag or couch )

                        

Step 1. Go into your quiet place.

Step 2. Grab your book.

Step 3. Get your bean bag or couch so you can sit on it.

Step 4. Get all comfortable and snuggly.

Step 5. Read the title.

Step 6. Open to the first page.

Step 7. Start reading and make pictures in your head.

Step 8. Think and if you get stuck on a word skip it or sound it out.

If you get stuck inside of a book you should try to go on your know(new) adventure. You could go into an adventure. If you are reading a book about fairies then you will go on an adventure with beautiful fairies or you read a dragon book you will be going on an adventure riding a dragon. Reading is good for you. Technology like the Television, phones, ( Only if there's a book app where you can read ) ipads, tablets, laptops and computers are not good for you. The only good and not so good is the tv because you can get some ideas from tv but reading is the best! When you read a book you won’t get pulled off but with tv you have to get off it when your caregiver or parents tell you to get off it. Reading is better than technology!!

I have been learning to write something about how to enjoy a good book. I am proud of my writing because I worked really hard on it and I went back and made lots of changes. Something that challenged me was putting all the detail in. Next time I could put more detail into my writing about how to read a good book. I really enjoyed writing how to enjoy a good book. There were a lot of steps. Here is my writing about how to read a book. You could use this to enjoy your book.

Maths

I am proud of my maths because I put a lot of effort into it. Something that challenged me was putting all the right answers in the right place and there's another thing that I'm proud is that all my hard work is in my thinking. I split the tens and ones when I added the numbers together. 

My Art Work

I am proud of my art work because it took me a while to finish and I tried to put in most of my details about me on my art work. We could choose the shape of our masks because they didn't have to look like a real face. I chose blue and turqoise for the background of my mask because they are my favorite colours. The nose is made out of an A for Aotea and my ear is made of an H for Harmer and Higgins. Next time I will do 2 Hs for both the Hs in my last name. All of my mask is made out of recycled cardboard. Some of the card is the inside part of a box so it has corrugated parts on it. I am happy with how my mask looks because I put in a lot effort. Something that challenged me was doing all of the shapes and cutting them out of the tough cardboard.

Camp Reflections

It's a beautiful day in the pit of DOOM!!!

Something that challenged me at Camp Omatua was tubing because I have not been tubing before and I am terrified of eels because I know they are slimy and a little bit naughty because they nip you and I noticed a  baby one behind a rock and just flouting under the water. The eel was black-sh grey-sh so kinda the same.
Tubing was so awesome I have to do that again same day maybe all day everyday it was cool and relaxing. Fear factor food was my personal favorite except for the fresh animal blood Mrs Hill told us but it actually
was coconut milk yuck!!! I puked up in the sink (Sorry Mrs Hill) We all did the last challenges all together as a real team to me. I still tried to think this one out but when every one took off their blind fold and then... Mrs Hill said it out loud it's weetbix. I was still finding out what was it.

Camp Omatua  was awesome. I hope we go there again some day.

Detail

I am proud of my learning because I put lots of work into it and put some detail in my writing. My detail  came from what I could see,hear, smell and feel. In my writing I wrote about the Mary Celeste.
